What a difference a decade makes

I was interviewing a self-confessed "older mom" for a story last week - a mom who is about to adopt a baby girl even though her own children are now in their 20s. "I'm totally out of the loop," she said. "I don't know anything about Baby Einstein!"

Somehow the Disney versions of classical music has taken on a life that's come to symbolize a generation! And no wonder - Baby Einstein has just turned 10! You could credit the Disney magic - it's worked for ages. But the real magic in Baby Einstein's music movies is the music itself - there's a reason these are called the classics. Sweet, lilting, they are both soothing to mom and stimulating to the kids. And that's kids, plural, not just the babies.

We missed the Baby Einstein boat when Jillian was still in the crawling stage and I could have used the mood music. Now that she's at TV watching age, she'll pull her stool up in front of the TV in my office, and spin off a running commentary of what's appearing on the screen. The lack of storyline, the simple music, have actually made them movies that provoke thought and spark the imagination.

Their first success, Baby Mozart, has been re-released in a special edition DVD along with Baby Beethoven, with puppet shows, behind the scenes, and, of course, music. And I've got one of each to give away to some lucky blog readers! Two random winners will be chosen next Monday, September 22 - one will win the Baby Mozart special edition and the other the Baby Beethoven special edition.

Want to win? Leave a comment below telling us your favorite Disney movie. For extra entries, grab my badge and/or blog about this contest, then come back to leave a comment with the link - it'll give extra hits for your site too! I love the Baby Einstein collection! Watching one of these videos is part of our little girl's daily routine. She's just learning to talk and gets so excited about the different animals on the screen, yelling out their names. :-) We'd love to win the Baby Beethoven video to add to her collection.

The Lion King and Finding Nemo are tied for Disney favorites in this house.

Thanks for the giveaway!

We watch lots of Disney movies. Our favorite (right now, anyway) is Under Dog!
My son always watched Baby Einstein videos when he was a baby and he LOVED them! He would get sooooooooo excited everytime the catapillar would make it's way onto the screen at the beginning of each video. As a matter of fact Baby Einstein was the theme for his 1st birthday!
Now we have passed the videos on to his baby sister and she gets so engrossed with them too! She really gets a kick out of the puppets. Currently we are hooked on Baby's 1st Sounds! I would recommend them to any mom!
Baby Mozart is one we haven't seen, but would love to add to our collection!

we are fans of Disney/Pixar crossovers, so I would have to say Monsters Inc.

As for BE, we have the music on constantly, but haven't watch videos yet... I know it is coming any day!

Disney has too many great movies to choose just one. My classic favorite is Dumbo. It is so sweet and endearing. Of their newer films, I am crazy about Toy Story, and Toy Story 2.

Disclaimer

I realized I had to add one of these because people let their minds run away with them sometimes. Wait, where was I?

The reviews I put up on this site are NOT paid for by any company. They come from my little ol' head. Some of the products I found myself - on the 'net, at the store, or from other moms. Some were sent my way by publicists. Usually they didn't fit the mold of another project I was working on, but I thought they were so cool I couldn't help sharing!

As for what happens to the products I didn't care for - you'll never know! Because I won't write about them on here. So if you see it, I liked it. 'Nuff said!
