The first time my daughter pointed to my t-shirt and said "Mommy, that's from my Wild Things book," I knew I was having an impact. We read like crazy around here, and I keep crossing my fingers that the reading bug that bit both my husband and I a long, long time ago will keep her company throughout the rest of her life.
At her age, the books are "read" by herself in a corner where she makes up a story to match the pages or really read by us before bed or during breaks throughout the day. The Scholastic Read With Me DVD series takes that a step farther. Instead of a traditional movie rendition of their favorite books, the films are animated versions of the books. The words from each page appear at 
the bottom of the screen, and as the narrator reads, the words he's imparted are highlighted - like that old bouncing ball over the sing-along movies.

We started Jillian's collection with Where the Wild Things Are and Five More Stories by Maurice Sendak in a tribute to my Wild Things shirt and our adventures several nights a month off to the land where the wild things roam with Max. It's helped me introduce her to some of Sendak's other classics, including my old favorite, In the Night Kitchen, which I had somehow forgotten. I've already got it on our library list so we can sit down and pour over the real thing, but the stories on the DVD provide TV fare that we can feel OK allowing our children to watch.
Where the Wild Things Are and Five More Stories by Maurice Sendak is animated with Sendak's original illustrations, retaining the flavor of the fun even as it's redone for a new audience.

I just love The Little Engine that Could. It was one of my favs as well as Where the Wild things Are. My daughter loves both, but her very favorite is Froggy's Little Sister.

I love Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day. I teach kindergarten and I still read the book or show the movie to my "kids" whenever we're having a class-wide bad day. We talk about why our day isn't going well and how we need to change it! Some days, they'll tell me I need to read the book or show the movie!
My favorites as a child would of been "clifford the big red dog" and "the very hungry caterpillar" And my lil one isn't born yet but I have shared my love of clifford with my nieces and my lil sister! And well I think almost everyone has read the caterpillar book!
i always loved the runaway bunny by margaret wise brown. my girls love it too...i read it to them and also recite it while i nurse them.

My favorites were the Amelia Bedelia series...no maybe the Ramona books...or One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish since it was the first book I ever read by myself. So many fun memories! :)
this is one of our favorites as well as dr. suess. During moving many years ago I lost a favorite I had from scholastic and have never been able to remember the title- but it had a turquoise cover and a fisherman fishing on it..about a magic fishing pond- but never have seen it at the library or stores- but I loved it
The Corduroy books were always my favorite as a child and my daughter enjoys the now too!

It's gotta be Strega Nona. My mom is a retired kindergarten teacher and read it to all her classes and tome. I LOVE those books. We've tried to read them to my daughter, but they're a little long for her yet.

My favorite book when I was in elementary school was the Boxcar Children. Found it one day in the library and I was told by our teacher that I should choose something that was a shorter book. Yeah, right. I don't like to do as told. So, the old, red hardcover with a sketch here and there was the book I chose that week and I was hooked. Can't believe Scholastic now carries a set of 4!
I remember reading the The Magic School Bus books in school, especially Out of This World. We would always read them and then get to watch the movies.
What about the Little House books? I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Ramona Beverly Cleary series was one of my favorites and yes I just shared it with my 9 yr old daughter and she loved it!

My favorite book as a kid was Alexander and the Terrible Harrible No Good Very Bad Day. I was also in a play honoring this book - I played the teacher. So when my DS was born my mother bought this book for him.
I love all the Olivia books. That's my favorite now, but as a kid I loved the Boxcar Children series. The first one was the first chapter book I ever read!
The giving tree has always been my favorite - I haven't shared it with my son yet but we asked for it for him for christmas.

I loved the Scholastic Book fairs at school when I was little. I had forgotten all about the Magic School Bus adventures until now - I can't remember a specific favourite - but I know I loved the series. I was always a science nut.
