Yes We Can! Give Away the Obama Action Figure and More!

If you thought the giddy factor of November 5 could be frozen away with a little New York winter, I'm sorry, I'm still over the moon. Fortunately for you - it means I'm celebrating.

And how do we celebrate on Inside Out? With the giveaway to beat all January blues - a Scholastic package of books plus the hard-to-find (and hopping on eBay) Obama action figure. I couldn't even get my hands on one of these this year, but Scholastic has set one aside for one lucky Inside Out winner, along with a pile of our political picks from the bookshelves.

Don't worry, we're not going partisan here. Our favorites are purely independent for independent-thinking kids!

For the pre-school kids on the hill, Otto Runs for President by Rosemary Wells takes a bite out of dirty politics with the pups at Barkadelphia Elementary. Trash-talking turns to cheating on tests, and over-involved parents ruin the campaign for their spoiled pooches as the pups at Barkadelphia realize the dog they want in the house is the one who listens when they yip. From the author who brought us sweet Scotty McDuff, Otto Runs for President proves it's worth it to be a true man of the people - or should that be pup of the pack?

Who doesn't hold a soft spot in their heart for a dog? Mayoral candidate Hugo Bugwort, that's who. The former chief of police is looking to clean up the city of Pumpkinville in LaRue for Mayor: Letters from the Campaign Trail by Mark Teague - by cracking down on dogs. But when Ike LaRue gets his paws on petitions and makes his own bid for city hall, things get really interesting! LaRue is, after all, a dog. So what's the key to peace in Pumpkinville? Think team of rivals; and a good lesson for the school-aged set on making making friends out of one's enemies.

We hear the Obamas are getting a dog, but their predecessors at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue haven't always stuck to man's best friend in picking a pet. Wackiest White House Pets by Kathryn Gibbs Davis offers up a taste of animal antics inside the Beltway, from the first turkey offered a presidential pardon to Teddy (of bear fame) Roosevelt's menagerie. Complete with a run down of the two-legged residents of the White House, they'll be ready to narrate the whole procession.

All three books, plus the Barack Obama Action Figure are up for grabs to one Inside Out reader. Check out the Scholastic store, and pick your favorite books to celebrate the inauguration. Let us know what it is and why in comments . Get extra entries by grabbing my badge and/or blogging about this contest and all (remember to leave the link in comments as well).

Open to U.S. and Canadian residents, the contest will close on January 19, so remember to check back or subscribe at left to be notified right away. NEW SUBSCRIBERS for the month of January will all be entered to win a gift certificate to one of my favorite pajama shops - details coming later this week - so don't forget to subscribe at left!

The "Scholastic Encyclopedia of the Presidents and Their Times" looks like a great presidential reference book for all families. Can you recite all the presidents in order? I can! Or at least I used to be able to. Thanks for a great giveaway!

I grew up on Scholastic books, so I don't have to worry about their quality. I'd love "Mr. President: A Book of U.S. Presidents - 2009 Edition," which gives individual tidbits about the lives of USA Presidents. "Yes We Can! A Salute to Children from President Obama's Victory Speech" would also be cool to explain to kids the historic significance of this particular election.

My friend sent me the link to this giveaway, because she knew I'd flip for it. She's absolutely right. Thanks for a fun giveaway!

Disclaimer

I realized I had to add one of these because people let their minds run away with them sometimes. Wait, where was I?

The reviews I put up on this site are NOT paid for by any company. They come from my little ol' head. Some of the products I found myself - on the 'net, at the store, or from other moms. Some were sent my way by publicists. Usually they didn't fit the mold of another project I was working on, but I thought they were so cool I couldn't help sharing!

As for what happens to the products I didn't care for - you'll never know! Because I won't write about them on here. So if you see it, I liked it. 'Nuff said!
